Course Name:   Elective Courses * Planning Pd:      9:15-10:00AM

Course Description:

High school elective classes enrich your teen’s high school experience and strengthen their education. These courses are not required subject areas, your student gets to select them instead of being required to take them.

Standards and Content:

Standards are chosen by the Tennessee State Board of Education. The standards are a common set of expectations for what students should know and be able to do at the end of a specific grade or course. These standards can be found on the tn.gov website. Use the search engine for specific standards.

Classroom Expectations:

  • Students will enter the class without talking, physically distanced, and go to assigned seat.
  • Students will put their level folder in the tray by the door.
  • Students will listen respectfully to the teacher for instructions.
  • Students will raise their hand to speak and wait to be called on by the teacher.
  • Students will be active participants in their learning and ask clarifying questions as needed.
  • Students will not put their head down, appear to be sleeping, or sleep in class.

Make-Up Work:

It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and turn in missing work. If you are absent, for any reason, upon your return you must:

  • Turn in assignments assigned before and due during your absence immediately or they will be considered late.
  • Obtain missed assignments.
  • Speak with the instructor in order to receive a new due date and important directions.
  • Turn in missing work by the agreed upon date.

If you acquire help in completing any assignments, see the instructor for assistance.

Grading

I use a total point grading system in which your course grade is based on the ratio of points earned, to total number of points possible. Each week you should check your grades in PowerSchool to ensure that you understand where you are in relation to where you want to be. This is also a check that I have issued the grade that you have earned and deserved.

When you leave Alternative School, your grade will be sent to your home school. The grade you earned while here will be averaged (by weight) with the grade you earned at your home school based on the percentage of the grading period spent at each location.

Grading Scale:

The Tennessee Department of Education has approved the following scale for the assignment of letter grades

*90-100   A   *80-89     B   *70-79     C  *60-69     D  *59 or below  F

  • Stay awake & alert at all times
  • Stay on task & be an active participant in class
  • Remain seated & raise hand to speak & wait to be called on
  • Use appropriate language at ALL times
  • Be accountable, accept responsibility, and complete all assignments
  • Use technology according to CMCSS policy

Always remember to:

Respect yourself.

Respect others.

Be professional at all times.
